THE COOSA VALLEY CHAPTER #519 OF TROUT UNLIMITED RECEIVED IT'S CHARTER ON AUGUST 7th 1986 AND IS A 501-c-3 TAX FREE ORGANIZATION.

 

THE CHAPTER HAS GROWN DRAMATICALLY SINCE THAT TIME AND IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST CHAPTERS IN THE STATE.

THE CHAPTER HAS REGULAR MONTHLY MEETINGS ON THE THIRD THURSDAYS OF EVERY MONTH AT THE ROME FLOYD ECO CENTER ON RIVERSIDE PKY NE IN ROME.

 

THE COOSA VALLEY CHAPTER HAD HOSTED THE TROUT EXPO AT THE ECO CENTER FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

 

THERE ARE A FEW EXCEPTIONS FOR "OUTING MEETINGS".

 

THESE OUTING MEETINGS USUALLY OCCUR IN MAY AND SEPTEMBER, AND THEIR LOCATION IS ALWAYS POSTED IN ADVANCE IN THE WEBSITE "CALENDAR OF EVENTS".

 

THE CHAPTER IS VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY.

 

THE CHAPTER STARTED A KIDS FISHING DAY IN CAVE SPRING IN 1987.

 

WITH AN AVERAGE ATTENDANCE OF ABOUT 400 CHILDREN AND AFTER MORE THAN 35 FISHING EVENTS THOUSANDS OF KIDS HAVE GROWN UP HAVING EXPERIENCED CATCHING TROUT AND KNOWING ABOUT TU.

THE CHAPTER NOW HAS  HAD A VETERANS FISHING DAY 11 YEARS.

 

 

VETS FISHING DAY OCCURS IN CAVE SPRING AND ALL VETS OF ALL WARS AS WELL AS ACTIVE MILITARY ARE INVITED TO ROLATER PARK TO CATCH A TROUT, TAKE THEIR MINDS OFF THEIR TROUBLES AND LEARN TO FLY FISH. WE HAVE RECENTLY ADDED FLY FISHING FOR WOMEN'S DAY. BOTH ARE HELD ON THE SAME DAY WITH THE VETERANS STARTING AT 10AM THROUGH NOON AND WOMEN STARTING AT 1PM THROUGH 3PM. WOMEN FLY FISHERS HAVE BEEN THE FASTEST GROWING NEW MEMBER GROUPS IN THE COUNTRY AND WE AT THE COOSA VALLEY CHAPTER WANT TO ENCOURAGE WOMEN OF ALL AGES TO JOIN AND PARTICIPATE.

DREAM TRIP FLY FISHING VACATION

 

EVERY YEAR ALL THE CHAPTERS IN THE STATE JOIN WITH THE GEORGIA COUNCIL IN SELLING CHANCES ON A TRIP FOR TWO TO A PRIVATE CABIN JUST OUTSIDE YELLOWSTONE. EXAMPLES OF THE DETAILS ARE:  

The winner and their partner will each receive these things or similar:
Five days fishing and six nights, food and lodging at a private cabin in Island Park, Idaho near the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

Choice of a Winston BIII-x, 5 wt. or a Sage ONE, 4,5 or 6 wt. rod A fly Reel with Scientific Angler line. items may change due to availabliity.

A fly box and flies (approximately 5 to 7 dozen per box) for the trip. $500 in travel expenses (this is total, not per person)

NOTE: Winners are responsible for Travel arrangements, fishing licenses, gratuities, and alcoholic beverages during their stay Any tax due on the value of the winnings.

THE COOSA VALLEY CHAPTER OF TROUT UNLIMITED, "CVCTU" DOES MUCH MORE THAN TEACH KIDS AND VETS TO FISH.

 

 

CVCTU HAS BEEN A BENEFACTOR OF THE ARROWHEAD ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER ON FLOYD SPRINGS ROAD.  THE CENTER NOW HAS LIMITED IT'S HOURS AND SOON SHOULD HAVE A NEW PERSON IN CHARGE.

 

 

CVCTU ALONG WITH THE OCONEE CHAPTER ESTABLISHED A SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT AT THE WARNELL SCHOOL OF FORESTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA. IT IS FULLY FUNDED & GENERATING SCHOLARSHIPS.

 

CVCTU JOINED WITH THE GEORGIA COUNCIL OF TU AND HAS NOW ESTABLISHED A RESEARCH GRANT ENDOWMENT THAT HAS NOT QUITE REACHED FULL FUNDING BUT IS GROWING STEADILY.

CVCTU HAS ALSO ASSISTED THE ROME FLOYD ECO CENTER IN FUNDING THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN INDOOR TROUT STREAM AND  INTERACTIVE DISPLAY ABOUT TROUT AND TROUT UNLIMITED.

CVCTU SPONSORS KIDS BETWEEN 13 AND 15 FOR TROUT CAMP EVERY YEAR IN NORTHEAST GEORGIA.

 

 

AT TROUT CAMP THE KIDS LEARN ALL ABOUT TROUT, THEIR HABITAT, THEIR FOOD, PARTICIPATE IN A STREAM ENHANCEMENT PROJECT, A FISH STOCKING, LEARN TO FLY FISH AND HOW TO TIE FLIES.

CVCTU VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE ON STREAM ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS ON SEVERAL AREA STREAMS.

 

JOHNS CREEK IN FLOYD COUNTY, MOUNTAINTOWN CREEK IN GILMER COUNTY, HOLLY CREEK, ROCK CREEK AND GOLDMINE BRANCH IN MURRAY COUNTY, LITTLE CEDAR CREEK IN CAVE SPRING, AND RACCOON CREEK IN PAULDING COUNTY HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF MAN HOURS OF LABOR IN MAKING THESE PLACES BETTER FOR FISH AND FISHERMEN.

 

THE COOSA VALLEY ALSO PARTNERS WITH OTHER CHAPTERS ON STREAMS ACROSS THE STATE.

 

THE COOSA VALLEY CHAPTER DOES MORE THAN RAISE MONEY AND ENHANCE STREAMS, WE FISH!!

 

CVCTU MEMBERS FISH AREA STREAMS AND RIVERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

 

MANY OF OUR MEMBERS TAKE FISHING EXCURSIONS TO PLACES ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND BEYOND.

 

 CVCTU MEMBERS TAKE GROUP TRIPS WITH REGULARITY TO CHEROKEE NORTH CAROLINA AND MOST RETURN WITH STORIES OIF LARGE NUMBERS OF FISH CAUGHT WITH SOME BEING IN EXCESS OF 20 INCHES.

 

MANY , AS MANY AS 32, OF OUR MEMBERS FISH AND FLOAT THE WHITE RIVER IN ARKANSAS AND A  GROUP TRIP IS USUALLY PLANNED.
