Dear Sponsor:

The Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is making plans for our only fund raiser, the 24TH Annual TU Chili Cook Off to be held on October 19th, 2019. The success of this event is credited largely to our sponsors, who lend their names and financial support to the event. The money we raise each year goes to fund the National Trout Unlimited mission statement, which is to educate the community in the conservation, protection, and restoration of North America’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. Most of the proceeds raised go to several local educational recipients such as an endowment that generates funds for scholarships at The WARNELL SCHOOL OF FORESTRY (Cold Water Fisheries School) (UGA), the Boy Scouts, the Arrowhead Environmental Education Center, the ROME, FLOYD E.C.O.RIVER EDUCATION Center, The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, public school systems, and the ever popular Kids Fishing Day and VETERANS FISHING DAY in Cave Spring. This year’s goal is forty thousand dollars.

By participating as a sponsor, your organization will benefit from exposure through media campaigns and promotional efforts directed toward the supporters of The Trout Unlimited Chili Cook Off. For your donation, you'll be able to enjoy excellent exposure with this important mission statement targeting a diverse audience. The TU Chili Cook Off has attracted between 4,000 and 5,000 attendees to pass through the gates of the event during each of the last seventeen years.

We have four levels of cash sponsorship packages. You can select the level of participation that best meets your needs, and be secure in the knowledge that your sponsorship donation will be used to help The Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited fund The TU Chili Cook Off here in this community.

We're counting on your support, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your willingness to support the efforts of The Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited to make a difference in our community. CVCTU is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is income deductible under the tax code.

The Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited

The Coosa Valley chapter of TU was established in 1986 by a group of Rome area anglers who realized that trout habitat was not as they felt it should be. These anglers had been familiar with the goals and mission statement of National Trout Unlimited and TU’s work on protecting, enhancing and restoring streams around America and felt that there was a need to establish a chapter in Northwest Georgia. The chapter immediately hit the ground (streams) running by establishing a handicapped, kids and senior only fishing area in Cave Spring and inaugurated a kid’s fishing day the same year. Our chapter members became hard working laborers on a multitude of stream projects across the state and began various raffles and fund raisers to help sustain the chapter.

In light of the extraordinary growth of our sponsored events in recent years, the Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited offers the following information for your inspection. We feel this is important to our current sponsors, and will provide detailed information to our prospective sponsors.

As a non-profit charitable organization, donations to the Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited are income deductible under the federal tax code.

The following includes specific benefits of sponsorship, and will delineate the disposition of the funding we receive.

Our main fund raising event is the Coosa Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (CVCTU) CHILI COOK OFF (CCO). It is held every fall, This year The third Saturday in October. The CCO has grown from a modest beginning of twelve cooking teams to averaging about 90 the last few years. Our attendance has risen to over 4,000 paying attendees, and with the various passes issued to other parties, approximately 5,000 people pass through the gate.

The CCO has become one of the largest single day events in North Georgia.

Cash sponsors receive priority in the choice of cook sites or static sites (if they choose not to cook). Sponsors and/or cook teams receive a number of passes for employees or team members determined by the level of sponsorship. We use various advertising media for the CCO, and in each, cash sponsors are prominently mentioned or displayed. Brochures, billboards, local newspapers in the surrounding areas, our newsletter and web site all are part of the ads. Our web site and newsletter provide links to our cash sponsors’ businesses. We have numerous radio spots mentioning our cash sponsors and a live broadcast prior to the event. Spokespersons for our sponsors are interviewed during the live broadcast. Various advertising media are used beginning in September, and run through the day of the CCO.

Sponsors may compete with independent teams for the best chili. There are three levels of competition; (1) Independent judges taste the chili and award the first three places. Trophies and cash are given to the prize winners. (2) The paying public votes for their favorite team and trophies are awarded. (3) The best cook sites are awarded with trophies by independent judges.

(See page 4  for current levels of sponsorship).

Our other public event is Kids Fishing Day (KFD), is usually held the Saturday before Father’s Day in June. This event is at Rolater Park in Cave Spring, and the fishing occurs at the pond adjacent to the entrance to the cave. Only children from the ages of three through twelve are allowed to fish (with some help from parents). This event draws over 400 kids and their parents, and is the only day of the year that the pond may be fished by the kids.  The Georgia Department of Natural Resources stocks the pond the day before the event with approximately 1,000 trout.

This event is made possible by our sponsors, and makes no money for the Chapter. Sponsor levels are not applicable to this event, with most of our sponsors giving us no more than a few hundred dollars, along with food, door prizes and equipment. Sponsors receive exposure via signage and various local newspapers in North Georgia. We offer a free kid’s lunch, have drawings for kids’ prizes and each kid may keep up to five fish they caught.

                                                                          VETERANS FISHING DAY

The coosa Valley Chapter has a new and on-going event that is dedicated to our veterans that live in Northwest Georgia. This is an oportunity for the chapter to introduce our war heroes to trout and fly fishing. Cave Spring has graciously allowed us to use the pond at Rolater Park and there are usually a good number of trout left over from Kids Fishing Day to give these new anglers plenty of fish to catch. We always welcome active military as well as our vets. This event usually occurs in later July.

The Coosa Valley Chapter has a legacy of giving that few local non-profit organizations of our size can duplicate. Our philosophy focuses on education and hands on projects. Our sponsors’ donations allow us to raise additional funds from admission charges at the Chili Cook Off and therefore every person whether a cook team participant, a paid attendee or anyone o participated as a volunteer in making the cook off possible can say they helped Trout Unlimited.

Trout Unlimited has found that educating our children, young adults and the public in general is crucial in protecting our cold water resources and the land where these invaluable streams flow. Money raised by the Cook Off has allowed the Coosa Valley Chapter to establish an endowment at The Warnell School of Forest Resources (Fisheries) at the University of Georgia which is generating yearly scholarships. Not only are we educating on the college level but locally we have distributed funds to high school science clubs, elementary classes, the Boy Scouts, the Arrowhead Environmental Center, The ECO Center, and various other educational resources across Northwest Georgia. The total of which has exceeded $190,000.

Trout Unlimited is a volunteer organization that does hands on work that is critical in the protection of the resource. Members of our chapter join together with members across the state in building log and rock structures that allow the water itself to improve and clean the stream bed of most egg killing sediment, therefore streams become nurseries for young trout and are restored to the point of becoming a self sustaining trout fishery. A portion of the money raised by the Cook Off and donated by our sponsors allows TU to supply the materials used to stabilize the stream banks, secure the logs and the power machines necessary for each project.

The above monetary gifts are made possible through our sponsors, in that the sponsor money allows us to promote the Chili Cook Off, our only fund raising event. Of the net proceeds from the Chili Cook Off (sponsors, teams, and the paying public), approximately 89% of the funds become available for our monetary recipients.

CVCTU has helped to spearhead recent upgrades at Johns Creek in the Pocket and has contributed both financially and physically to returning the area to a family friendly fishing & camping destination.
